EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT: A KEY TO NIGERIA’S FUTURE

Professor Veronica Ebun Yonlonfoun, a renowned expert in Educational Management, has emphasized the crucial role of effective management in rescuing Nigeria from its current crisis.

The Professor of Educational Management stated this during the 29th inaugural lecture of the Tai Solarin University of Education, held at the TETFund 2012 Hall, of the Ijagun main Campus, titled: Educational Management: A Nation in Crisis she delved into the complexities of educational management and its impact on national development.

Prof. Yonlonfoun stressed the importance of a holistic approach to Educational Management, encompassing planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, and budgeting.

She highlighted the need for clear goals, efficient resource allocation, and effective leadership to ensure the success of Educational Institutions.

The University Don noted that one of the key challenges facing Nigeria’s Educational system is the quality of teaching and learning.

She emphasized the importance of teacher professional development, stating that well-trained and motivated teachers are essential for providing quality Education.

She called for increased investment in Teacher training programmes and ongoing professional development opportunities.

Furthermore, the Professor addressed the issue of infrastructure and facilities in Schools. She highlighted the need for adequate classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and other essential resources to create conducive learning environments. She also emphasized the importance of regular maintenance and repairs to ensure that School facilities are in good condition.

Another significant challenge is the issue of equity and access to Education. Prof. Yonlonfoun called for efforts to ensure that all children, regardless of their socio-economic background, have equal opportunities to access quality education. She advocated for policies that promote inclusive Education and address the needs of marginalized groups.

In addition to these challenges, the Professor of Education Management, discussed the impact of technology on Education. She emphasized the importance of integrating technology into the classroom to enhance teaching and learning. She also highlighted the need for digital literacy skills for both Teachers and Students to effectively utilize Technology.

In her concluding remarks, Prof. Yonlonfoun’s lecture provided valuable insights into the critical roles of Educational Management in shaping the future of Nigeria. By addressing the challenges and implementing effective strategies, Nigeria can harness the power of Education to drive economic growth, social development, and national prosperity.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwole Banjo in his remarks at the occasion described the inaugural Lecturer, a teacher of teachers having taught from the primary School to the University, he further commended her tenacity and dedication to her chosen profession.

He however, called on Governments at all levels and other stakeholders to invest in Education and pay living wages to employees in the profession so as to encourage them.
