History

The TASUED Alumni Association was formed in 2009 when pioneer students were about to graduate from the University. What would have been referred to as assemblage of University graduates was crystallized into an Alumni Association founded on clear objectives to partner the University in developmental strides; display intellectual capacity; character capable of ennobling the Alma Mater and deepening network of friendship amongst her members in order to herald mutual successes in chosen endeavours and nation building at large. In all these, very significant were the roles played by the Pioneer Vice Chancellor of TASUED Prof. Olukayode Oyekanmi Oyesiku who is now the Board of Trustee Chairman of the Association, Prof. Abayomi Adelaja Arigbabu as well as the current Acting Vice Chancellor of University. Also in this historic assignment was former Dean, Students Affairs, Prof. Bayo John Oluwasegun Ayorinde who beckoned on the then students’ stakeholders (students’ union and religious leaders) to take up the responsibility of providing a platform where graduates could relate and interact as well as providing instrumental platform to achieve the University’s developmental and intellectual goals. A caretaker committee was then immediately set up by these students’ stakeholders and Mr. Tajudeen Uthman was unanimously appointed to lead the newly-formed Association until elections were conducted to usher in new executives.

Having constituted an electoral committee that will facilitate the transition of the caretaker committee and to legitimately recognise the Association, election was conducted and on the 11th of June, 2011 and Mr. Tajudeen Uthman was sworn in as the pioneer President of TASUED Alumni Association alongside eight other executive members. The administration commenced fully and was instrumental to the development and the sustenance of the University when the threat of merger with another state-owned institution was speculated. The Association offered scholarship to some members; established eight other chapters of the Association in other geographical areas in order to increase members’ participation; organized alumni lectures; resuscitated the University Bakery; donated equipment and a bus to the University to run the bakery. Also the TASUED Alumni Association was incorporated into the Conference of Alumni of Nigerian Universities (CANU). However, the administration’s tenure ended by the congress resolution on the 24th of August, 2013 and a caretaker committee was constituted instantly which was Chaired by Mr. Olukunle Saheed Oludeyi with the mandate to conduct elections into various offices.

An electoral committee, which was constituted by the congress, facilitated the transition from the interim leadership to a newly-constituted regime. The second regime of the TASUED Alumni Association commenced on the 14 th of September, 2013 wherein new executive members were sworn into office. The regime was led by Mr. Buraimo Saheed Olaiya. On assumption of office, the regime purchased the first ever Alumni bus to facilitate the Association’s activities and co-sponsored the University’s sports contingent to the 2014 NUGA held at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife with the provision of jerseys, football boots, balls and other items needed to aid the successful outing of TEAM TASUED at the event. The Association also donated several electrical appliances (HP desktop computer systems and printers), generating set and few refrigerators to the Academic Affairs Unit of the University. The TASUED Postgraduate School also benefitted from the association.

Several alumni members equally benefited from the scholarship scheme of the Association alongside the all-inclusive leadership style adopted when the previous eight chapters were increased by 10 additional chapters, making eighteen additional chapters in all.

Another feat achieved in history of the Association is the annual Alumni lecture, with the latest delivered by the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University and the Association’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Prof. Olukayode Oyesiku. The Association was also registered and issued a certificate of registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2017. The Association sustained its membership with CANU (Conference of Alumni of Nigerian Universities).

As part of its drive towards ‘partnership that works’, the Association jointly celebrated the 10th anniversary with the University’s Management in 2015. The Association also produced the first Alumni representative on the University’s Governing Council and also embarked on a gigantic Alumni building up to the lintel level before the administration of Mr. Saheed Buraimo handed over to the incumbent, Mr. Abdullahi Abiodun Oyekanmi after the latter won the October 14, 2017 elections.

Having been sworn in alongside other national executives of the TASUED Alumni Association on December 22, 2017, the mantle of leadership rests on Mr. Abdullahi Abiodun Oyekanmi-led administration to rejuvenate the TASUED Alumni Association, build on the previous administrations’ giant strides and as well partner the University administration to bring a new lease of life to TASUED in line with the philosophy of her founding fathers and the expectations of members of TASUED Alumni Association.
