TASUED VC ADVOCATES FOR ENHANCED STUDENT SUPPORT THROUGH COUNSELLING DIRECTORATE

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwole Banjo, FWISON, FASN, FAIMP, dfsin has called on the University Community to leverage on the services of the Directorate of Counselling and Human Development to maximise their potential through proper monitoring and guidance.

Prof Banjo gave this advice at a one-day seminar organised recently by the Directorate of Counseling and Human Development.

The Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adekunle Adeogun, commended the Directorate for its foresight noting that the event was aimed at highlighting the services offered by the Directorate.

At the event, the Chief Superintendent of Police, Modupe Ijeoma Awolowo, of the Igbegba Police Division, provided security tips to address the challenges facing the nation and various campuses.
She urged students to avoid societal ills such as cultism, gangsterism and emphasised the importance of being aware of happenings in their surroundings.

Awolowo stressed that the police need community support to effectively address security breaches and encouraged students to report suspicious activities.

Dr. Elizabeth Okonkwo, a guidance and counselling expert from Babcock University, addressed the issue of depression, particularly in light of the nation’s economic and security challenges.
She encouraged students facing family and academic problems to seek help from the Directorate, dispelling the myth that only individuals with mental health issues need counselling.

Okonkwo advised students with a CGPA below 2.00 to consult with counsellors and emphasised the importance of maintaining a positive mindset.

Prof. Tolu Koyejo-Ogunleye, Director of the Guidance and Counselling Directorate of the institution highlighted the importance of counselling and commended the University’s Management for revitalising the Directorate. She urged Students to support each other and to utilize the resources available to them.
